Frequently asked questions

Can I create an APA citation from a DOI?

Yes. Enter the DOI once and the tool generates APA along with AMA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE and Vancouver versions from the returned metadata.

Does the tool require a Crossref API key?

No. It requests CSL-JSON through the official doi.org content-negotiation mechanism. The DOI resolver may redirect to the DOI registration agency that owns the record.

Does it accept legacy or percent-encoded DOI names?

Yes. It recognizes DOI URLs and old DOI names containing percent-encoded angle brackets, parentheses, semicolons or plus signs without changing a literal plus into a space.

Why should I check the generated citation before submitting?

DOI records can omit fields or journals can require local variations of a citation style. The tool formats the metadata it receives, so final journal or institutional instructions should take precedence.
