TOOL GUIDE

Guide to rigging a 3D model for animation

A character mesh cannot move properly by itself; it needs to be bound to a skeleton. Building a rig manually can take time when you only need a quick prototype.

Toolardo 3D Model Auto Rigger provides a browser-based workspace for preparing compatible 3D characters for rigging and animation workflows.

When is this useful?

  • Preparing an unrigged character for animation
  • Using GLB/FBX characters in a quick prototype
  • Testing bone mapping
  • Checking movement before exporting a model

How to use it

  1. Import the 3D model.
  2. Apply the rig or bone-mapping workflow.
  3. Test joints and movement in the 3D preview.
  4. Export in the appropriate output format.
Good to know

Automatic rigging is not perfect for every model. Unusual proportions, disconnected meshes, or problematic topology can require extra checking around shoulders, hands, hips, and knees.

How it works

  1. 1Open the 3D workspace and import your model.
  2. 2Choose or map the skeleton, then adjust the rig or retargeting settings.
  3. 3Preview animations, select the clips you need and export the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is my 3D model uploaded to Toolardo?

No. The model is loaded and processed in your browser by the vendored 3D workspace.

Which formats can I import?

The current workspace accepts GLB and FBX directly and ZIP packages for multi-file GLTF/DAE assets. Export options depend on the workflow and model.
